In October 1968, Central Baptist Church in Warner Robins, Georgia,took over as the new sponsor for the Mission. In February 1969, thefirst WMU was formed. On April 20, 1969, the church library wasestablished. On July 9, 1969, Central Baptist purchased the landpresently used by Sandy Valley Baptist Church. In September 1969, SalemBaptist Church near Montezuma, Georgia, was disbanding and voted todonate their church building, along with pews and all equipment to SandyValley. ![]()
On January 4, 1970, Sandy Valley Baptist Mission was constituted asSandy Valley Baptist Church, with 117 Charter Members. In July 1970,John Clark was named Interim Pastor. Rev. Ray Freeman became fulltimePastor in February 1971. By 1975 the WMU outreach program includedministries to the personal and spiritual needs of Elberta Nursing Homeresidents, a ministry which continues to this day. On September 19,1976, Dr. Carey Vinzant was called as Interim Pastor, and on June 28,1977, Rev. Mike Hudmon began his pastorate. On November 25, 1977, aground-breaking ceremony was held for an addition to the new EducationalBuilding.
From January to August 1979, Bro. Buddy Averett served as InterimPastor. On September 6, 1979, Rev. Huey L. Brock began his ministry aspastor of Sandy Valley. He was followed in December 1980 by Rev. BillMartin, who served as Interim Pastor until April 1981. On April 12,1981, the church called Bro. Bill as Pastor. ![]()
On November 20, 1985, the Building committee was authorized funds andgiven approval to proceed with the building plans for a new church. InNovember of that year, the pastorium was sold and a new church sign waserected. The new sanctuary was completed on December 20, 1986, debtfree, and the first worship service was held on December 21. January 25,1987 was Dedication Day for the new sanctuary.
In April 1987, the Library was renovated and reopened. In November1987, Bro. Bill made a Mission Trip to Liberia. that same month, Rev.Clyde McLain was called as Associate Pastor of Sandy Valley. He beganthe Senior Christian Ministry program in January 1988. ![]()
In February 1991, the church voted to purchase a 15 passenger van.April 1993 saw major improvements and additions made to the church,including a new sound room, Sunday School classrooms, and restrooms. InNovember 1993, Bro. Phil Bryant became Sandy Valley's first Minister ofEducation. Bro. Bill Martin retired in March 1998 and Bro. Phil Bryantbecame pastor on April 1, 1998. In 1999, a Korean Ministry was begunwithin the church.
Doug Boss was called as Minister of Education and Outreach inFebruary of 2000. Also that month, Sandy Valley Baptist Church sold 1.69acres to the State of Georgia fo the widening of Houston Lake Road.
Bro. Victor Lyons was called as Director of Music Ministries inDecember of 2000. Sandy Valley Baptist Church obtained almost five acresof land through a land swap with Jerry Willis. ![]()
On April 20, 2002, the Good News Singers held their "Reunion Concert"at Sandy Valley Baptist Church. Former Interim Pastor Rev. John WesleyClark died on April 30, 2002. Sandy Valley Baptist church had a newsound system installed in June of 2002. The Daisy McLain sunday Schoolclass donated six stained glass windows for the sanctuary in May of2003. Sheryl Winn represented Sandy Valley Baptist Church as part of amission trip to Moldova with the Rehoboth Baptist Association in May of2003.
Lynette Sheely became Director of Youth Ministries in May of 2003.Sheryl Winn made a second mission trip to Moldova in May of 2004.
In July, 2004, Jeff Morgan became our new Director of MusicMinistries.
In October of 2004 the History Committee added their "History Corner"in the Media Center to display Sandy Valley Baptist Church History. Royand Beth Pulliam donated the cabinet for the history books.
In November and December of 2004 the sanctuary was repainted andreceived on architectural "face-lift" overseen by Ray Armstrong. Also,in December of 2004 a new video projector system was installed.
